Holds Pickup Services

What is holds pickup?

Holds pickup is the the library's service that allows University of Dallas faculty, students, and staff to place holds on physical materials from the collection and have them pulled for check out by the library staff.

How does it work?

Step 1: Browse the catalog and request the item(s) that you need for your research. Requests are filled Monday-Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm. Requests are available for pick up the same day.

Step 2: Our library staff will retrieve the item(s) you requested.

Step 3: You will be notified via email when your item(s) are ready for pick up.

Step 4: Once you are notified by email that your item(s) are available for pick up, you can visit the library. Your items will be ready to pick up from the holds shelf. You will need to check them out at the circulation desk. Then, you can leave the library with your items.

What items can I request?

You can request items in the regular circulating collection such as books, CDs, and DVDs.

How long will it take to get my items?

Requests received during normal business hours should be available for pickup within the same business day. Requests received after 4:00pm will be available the next day for pickup.

How many items can I request at a time?

Please review the library's circulation policy to determine how many items you can checkout at a time.

How long will my items remain on the contactless pickup shelf?

We will keep items on the contactless pickup shelf for 10 days. Then, we will check the items in and reshelve them. If you need the items again you can place them on hold, or visit the shelf to check them out.

Can I return books at the same time I am picking up items? Where do I return my items?

Yes, you can return books by using the book drop slot located right outside of the library's doors.

Can I place a hold on an item that is checked out?

Yes, you can place an item on hold that is checked out. Please keep in mind that there could be other users' requests in line before your request. Once the book is returned to the library and is available, your hold will be filled. When your hold is filled you will be notified by email.
